A Slice of Green

Logo & Packaging Redesign

The Brief

A Slice of Green is a one-stop-shop for stylish and practical products that help people to live a more sustainable lifestyle. They stock a wide range of products from well known brands and also have their own ranges.

I was originally brought on board to design some packaging for a new range os stainless steel lunchboxes. As we developed these designs it became clear that the existing logo wasn’t doing the best job of representing the brand. A full brand and packaging review followed and resulted in a completely redesigned logo that’s flexible enough to work effectively across all the product ranges and a updated packaging style that can be applied to any product type. The designs also bring in a little humour which is a crucial part of the brand but was lacking in the original designs.

The Logo

Unlike the original logo the new design can be used at very small sizes without losing impact. This makes it ideal for etching on to very small products like stainless steel straws.

Product Packaging

The first packaging task was these paper wraps for stainless steel lunch boxes. It was important that these didn’t look dramatically different from the original packaging as there would be a great deal of overlap whilst product ranges were updated with the new brand, so as per the original these have plenty of white space and are focused on practical information.

Unlike the original packaging though these use icons and illustrations to highlight important product features. We also introduced a product naming system based on Indian town names to make the range more distinctive and as a subtle nod to their Indian production and similarity to traditional tiffin tins.

Icon Design

These icons are designed to convey important information quickly and effectively. Where space allows there ‘s also scope for adding in lighthearted details that help to bring the down nature of the brand to life.

Product Illustrations

The stainless steel product range is practical and utilitarian and these simple, bold illustrations help to convey that idea and in some cases also explain nested products.

Feature Illustrations

Some of the larger products in the range needed a little more information on the reverse of the pack to explain special features or inspire different uses. We were keen to introduce a down to earth humour to the packaging and these areas provided a great opportunity for this.

Paper Packing Tape

As part of their commitment to reduce waste and eliminate unnecessary plastic and printed inserts we also designed this branded paper packing tape. Parcels which do not include any branded packing slips or invoices can now still be clearly branded without any additional resources being used.

Client
Feedback

“Nic really understood what we wanted to achieve with the brand right from the outset – and came up with some really interesting options.

It was a brand that already had a colour scheme and the slice idea, so she had to work within that but the new branding is much fresher and we now we have an identity that works brilliantly across all our products.

She’s also been a great support as we add extensions to the range – so the ongoing work has been a pleasure rather than a chore!”
